Wilson Students Donate Stuffed Animals

The Wilson School of Gymnastics and Dance delivered stuffed animals to the Chambersburg Fire Department. This was a team building project that both the gymnastics and dance departments organized in an effort to provide children solace in an event of an emergency incident. Vehicle Tips on Guide Wire

A unique situation called out CFD Company One units to the intersection of Prince Street and Montgomery Court for an auto accident with a vehicle on its side. Arriving units found a single vehicle that drove up a utility pole guide wire at low speeds causing the vehicle to tip on its side. EMS attended to two patients, and the scene was turned over to the police.
Smoke Investigation at 34 School House Road

Shortly after CFD shift change, Truck 1 was requested per Chief 18 to assist with an investigation of smoke at 34 School House Road, Company 18's quarters. Truck 1 responded with five personnel and upon arrival was assigned with checking the roof and ventilation. Chimney Response at 850 South Fifth Street

Company 1 was dispatched at 2:51 p.m. for a possible chimney fire at 850 South Fifth Street. Company 1 and Chief 1 (Command) arrived on scene to find a single family residence with normal conditions from the outside. Upon investigation, it was determined that there was no fire and the chimney was in normal operation. Crews cleared in 15 minutes.  Read More
Barn Fire at 9277 Coble Road

An early morning start sent Truck 1 to 9277 Coble Road just after 7:00 a.m. for a reported barn fire. Deputy Chief 1 arrived to find a mobile home that the landowner was burning. Chief 18 requested all units to continue to protect exposures. Truck 1 arrived as the second unit on the scene and was assigned to assist with extinguishment. Auto Fire at 150 Lincoln Way East

At 10:31 a.m., Company 1 units were alerted to the rear of 150 Lincoln Way East for an auto fire. Engine 1-2, Engine 1-4, and Assistant Chief 1 arrived on scene to find a box truck containing shredded paper on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the truck was moved to a safe location to be emptied. Crews cleared in less than thirty minutes.  Read More
Building Fire at 10640 Upper Strasburg Road

At 11:00 a.m., Truck 1 was alerted to 10640 Upper Strasburg Road at the Upper Strasburg garage, Pleasant Hall Fire Department's first due, for a building fire. Truck 1 responded with a crew of six and arrived as first due truck. Multiple assignments were completed by the truck crew including opening up the building, fire suppression, and overhaul operations. Units cleared just before 2:00 p.m.
Possible Gas Leak at 307 S. Main St

Just after 7:00 a.m., crews were alerted for a possible gas leak inside the residence at 307 South Main Street. Company 1 arrived to find high levels of carbon monoxide and a gas odor present. After investigating it was found that there was a faulty hot water heater in the basement that was causing the gas leak and high levels of carbon monoxide.  Read More
Fire Code Inspection Policy Approved

The Mayor and Town Council approved the Fire Prevention Code on October 13, 2014 and the Fire Code Inspection Policy on November 10, 2014. The Chambersburg Fire Department already implemented the Fire Prevention Code and plans to soon execute the Fire Code Inspection Policy that pertains to all commercial properties in the Borough of Chambersburg.  Read More

Engine 1-4, Ambulance 106, and Medic 7 were alerted at 1:30 p.m. for an auto accident at the intersection of Hollywell Avenue and Mill Road. Units arrived on scene to find a single pickup truck into a tree. One patient was flown from Chambersburg Hospital to Hershey Medical Center.  Read More
Barn Fire at 3959 Warm Spring Road

Engines 1-2 and 1-4 along with Truck 1 were dispatched to 3959 Warm Spring Road for a barn fire. Truck 1 arrived on scene and was assigned to place water tower operations into service. Truck 1 knocked down the bulk of the fire; then, crews were re-assigned to salvage and overhaul. Two Vehicle Accident with Injury

Units were dispatched to 800 Norland Avenue for an auto accident. Engine 1-2 and Ambulance 1-8 arrived on scene to find a passenger vehicle into the rear of a tractor trailer. All occupants were out of their vehicles. Engine 1-2 controlled fluids while Ambulance 1-8 provided patient care and transported one patient to the hospital for evaluation.  Read More

The CFD provided participants, Captain Tim Ebersole, FF Tony Albright, FF Kelly Knepper, FF Jim Picking, and ES Chief Leonhard, for the many activities associated with the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation’s Memorial Weekend 2014. Dumpster Fire at 27 N. Main Street

Ambulance 1-8's crew, while performing fire code inspections, came across a dumpster fire to the rear of 27 North Main Street. Crew members placed themselves on scene and requested assistance from Engine 1-2. Workers first started to burn some boxes to the rear of the building which produced a lot of smoke; therefore, they discarded the boxes in the dumpster. The fire was extinguished. The worker was advised of the Borough of Chambersburg's no open burning policy for future reference.  Read More
